Barely moments before take off, the plane hit a buffalo on the runway.

<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">Transfers of government employees is considered as normal and a routine matter, but when transfer becomes a game of political Kho-Kho it certainly is a cause of concern. Especially when a sincere and hard working employee is being transferred before the end of his tenure raises lot of questions.

<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">Some very serious questions too.

<span style="color: #20124d; font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">Last time when such transfer took place it was understandable because there was an evident lapse in safety and security of human life and property and action needed to be taken. People who then suffered from 'Stockholm Syndrome' however did not agree but might now agree too, that the transfer of Surat Airport Director - Pramod Kumar Thakre is outright vindictive unjust and aimed to slow the growth rate of Surat Airport, which had made remarkable progress in the last 30 months.

<span style="color: #20124d; font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">Strangely, much before people could even recover from the shocking news and raise any doubts a clarification was already given from the political mouth pieces, stating that the transfer was "routine" and it was done on request of the APD himself, as he wished to stay closer to his native place for health reasons.

<span style="color: #20124d; font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">The only good thing that happened after the buffalo hit; was getting a new man in to take charge of the 'cattle-shed' from the predecessor. It was so hard for many to get out of the poetic-charms of the then transferred APD and to accept the fact that the future of the Airport was doomed and uncertain of what lay out with the newly rushed in APD - Pramod Kumar Thakre

<span style="color: #20124d; font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">It certainly was a daunting task for Pramod Kumar to step in the dung that he was suddenly dumped into & yet assure himself and others that he will clean up the crap.

And clean up and more he did. The fact that lot of things happened under his leadership, which some how had failed to become reality during the tenure of his predecessor, just as the emails bounced off his email address.

The list of achievements is quite long and pretty commendable too, understandably all of this did not happen because he had a magic wand but certainly there were other factors that steered him and took action in favor of the city airport.

<span style="color: #20124d; font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">

<span style="color: #20124d; font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">The bottom line however is that so much was achieved in these long painful 30 months that at the end of this day and if things go as per the plan, soon enough the Airport could be connected to direct international destinations.

<span style="color: #20124d; font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">

<span style="color: #20124d; font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">In short the airport is transformed from One destination only to International destination and the foot fall rising to nearly 5 times. A growth rate unachievable even by metro airports in such a short span.

<span style="color: #20124d; font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">

The New Entrant:

The new APD - Dilip Sajnani is brought over from Rajkot and will be taking charge of Surat Airport in this overnight game of Kho-Kho.

<span style="color: #20124d; font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">

<span style="color: #20124d; font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">Obvious to the uncertainty with the new entrant taking charge, same questions arise in the mind and fear mongers if the airport will continue with same rate of progress. More so the reasons that with this overnight shuffling serious doubts arises if the final stages of runway completion which has been waiting for "official approval" will get done as targeted by the hands of the new entrant.

Only time will tell if this transfer was a right move or not but we will come to know much sooner than later, if the remaining tasks are completed at the same pace and new tasks put into process keeping the complete expansion of the Airport, which includes acquiring of 800 hectares of land for a second runway and a second terminal building for Full fledged International Airport status.
<span style="color: #20124d; font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">

<span style="color: #20124d; font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">Lets keep our fingers crossed and possibly toes too.

<span style="color: #20124d; font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">

<span style="color: #20124d; font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">The Conspiracy Theory:

<span style="color: #20124d; font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">It is hardly believable that a person who had been so deeply involved in the development of Surat Airport, would like to leave it at a stage when the fruits of hard work were showing to grow. Certainly not for a flimsy reason of "Health grounds". As hail-hearty & fit he seems, but even with a slightest possibility of any health issues, he certainly would be better off in a "Smart City" like Surat where he had just hosted the PM at his Airport, who was in the city (besides scoring political brownie points) to inaugurate one of the finest Super Specialty hospital in the country.

<span style="color: #20124d; font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">

<span style="color: #20124d; font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">

<span style="color: #20124d; font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">

<span style="color: #20124d; font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">How rubbish is this reasoning that someone wants to go to Jabalpur when the best medical facility is available in the city of his current posting. In fact it should have been the other way round that Pramod Kumar would ask for extension of his posting instead, for availing the best medical facilities here.

<span style="color: #20124d; font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">

<span style="color: #20124d; font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">

<span style="color: #20124d; font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">Now that would make sense and as a good Samaritan gesture for a deserving person like Pramod Kumar, people across the board would have been more than happy to have even provided the treatment at no cost.

<span style="color: #20124d; font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">

<span style="color: #20124d; font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">

<span style="color: #20124d; font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">Fair enough, if it was just a routine transfer, if the APD was even allowed to complete his term of 3 years. Justifiably enough he could have at least been kept for the next 3 months till he completed the tasks which are at the final stages and who better could be to bring those tasks to a logical happy ending, which he had been under supervision all these months.
No answers to this from the CRaP mouthpiece
<span style="color: #20124d; font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">

<span style="color: #20124d; font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">There have always been rumors that the local representative had a personal 'beef' over the limelight being taken away by the APD, as most of the announcements towards the development and day to day progress of the airport were shared through the official handles of Social Media. As the incumbency threat looms large with coming elections and the pressures mounting due to inefficient handling of connectivity issue and 'stolen limelight', called for a drastic action. A large part of the section believes that this had been the root cause of this unceremonious transfer of Pramod Kumar.
<span style="color: #20124d; font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">

<span style="color: #20124d; font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">It however appears from the media reports that the current transfers have been triggered with several inconsistencies observed during the recent inspection. The major gaffe is that an entire isolation bay, used for emergency situation, had been made, gone unnoticed and remained unapproved for almost a decade. A valid reason but invalid action taken just on the Airport Team and keeping the other senior officials free from accountability.
<span style="color: #20124d; font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">

<span style="color: #20124d; font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">

<span style="color: #20124d; font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">Upfront, a segment of business community while awarding citation with a free shawl for exemplary performance, but behind the back are being party to this injustice and are labeling this being a "Routine Transfer". They do not realize that transferring a large section of the current team at Surat Airport for errors and omissions of the predecessor and the earlier inspection team, cannot be construed as just and routine.
<span style="color: #20124d; font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">

<span style="color: #20124d; font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">But then what do you expect from the babus who are at the mercy of the Boss-Man.
<span style="color: #20124d; font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">

<span style="color: #20124d; font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">We are unknown to the real reason and probably shall never know the ultimate truth but it is not a coincidence that during his blitz visit, the Boss-Man has made it aptly clear to the GoG that Surat is a self made "Resilient-City" while all focus needs to be towards Dholera, which needs intensive-care due due to the oncoming elections.

<span style="color: #20124d; font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">

<span style="color: #20124d; font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">At the end of the day it is aptly clear that instead of taking CBMs - Confidence Building Measures, PMO, MOCA AAI has done just the opposite. An abashed action resulting out of the Grand Welcome accorded to the PM going to their heads. Instead of putting the Airport on global map there is a consecrated effort to strangulate the growth of the Airport.

<span style="color: #20124d; font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">

<span style="color: #20124d; font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;"><span style="color: #20124d; font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">Ironically 30 months later, a HIT takes place again at Surat Airport; Not by a Buffalo this time but instead by a BULL(y).

<span style="color: #20124d; font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif; text-align: justify;">

<span style="color: #20124d; font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif; text-align: justify;">Some herd mentality that is.
Dear PMO India- aka Pradhan Sevak,

After TWO fly-by visits at Surat, this is your THIRD visit to the city of Diamonds, & as you had mentioned last time, the self sufficient city.

It was really flattering of you to have said that but we all know in reality it is different and now and then we need the blessings of the "Boss-Man" to actually have things to happen.

While the entire city has been given a "Spa-Treatment" for your arrival as your devotees are all awestruck that you're visiting the city itself has a valid reason to spend crores of tax payers rupees in cosmetic cleansing rather than making 10,000 odd "Sulabh-Sauchalays", itself.

But that is okay, since we live in an era of "Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas", this time it is the turn for "Vikas" of the Tent-houses, Plant nurseries, Paint Shops, Painters and of course the ever so glorifying light-wallahs. Not to forget the ever so "lying-low" media.

As "simpletons" as Surtis are and the yes-men being busy rolling out red carpet for you and in this abashed celebration & show of saffronisation, hope they do not forget to get you to do the "Ground-breaking" for the SECOND Terminal & Runway at Surat Airport, Airports Authority of India.

Don't worry the land is already there as per MOCA Jayant Sinha, if not, then your vote gathering MP's will promptly flash the copy of 7/12 from their pockets.

Hope this is not asking for too much from a Pradhaan Sevak.

Welcome again..!!😊

<span style="color: #20124d; font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">As usual, sections of Media, Social Media and others were all excited and getting prepared, evidently so that the City Salons were booked for days in advance for facials and beauty treatment. Some even went for new designer wears and wanted to paint the town Red, arguably some wanted it Hunger-strikingly White.
<span style="color: #20124d; font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">

<span style="color: #20124d; font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">A few even dusted their Airbus replicas.....after all whether the city gets Flights or Jumlas but "Ek Selfie to banti hai naa...."

<span style="color: #20124d; font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">

<span style="color: #20124d; font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">
Though however lucid his approach was to the lapping up audience; as if a grand mother was narrating a fairy tale to a bunch of children and however politically correct the minister was putting across his act, here are some of the ambiguities left behind by him.
<span style="color: #20124d; font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">

<span style="color: #20124d; font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">Apologies Mr Minister and Surti lalas for the bubble burst.....
<span style="color: #20124d; font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">

<span style="color: #20124d; font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">

<span style="color: #20124d; font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">1. Flight to Patna/Ranchi: Now whoever asked for a flight to Patna in the first place, sure you wanted to <span style="color: #20124d; font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">appease a segment of your vote bank. What are the odds that an average Surti wanting to fly to Ranchi or Patna as against Bangaluru, Kolkata, Chennai or for that matter even Goa, Pune, or Kochi. It will be surprising if these two cities fall in the top 10 destinations to fly from from Surat.
<span style="color: #20124d; font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">

<span style="color: #20124d; font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">However the rule of "jiski lathi uski bhains" applies, surely some CRaP minded person must have made suggestions out of its empty head, or wait, is there an election coming up soon out there!!
<span style="color: #20124d; font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">
2. Land Acquisition: Apparently it seemed that the Mayor and the elected representatives were carrying in their pockets, the 7/12 copies of the 800 odd hectares of land that is yet to be acquired for the extension of the Airport to upgrade it to International level along with the most needed 4 km long runway for transition of larger aircraft. How would they even publicly nod knowing that the most of the land is owned by the local bigwigs whose clout reaches out to the previous CM of Gujarat. Yet so easily Jayant Sinha agreed on 'making' an International Airport as he glided with ease......iska bhi problem nahi hai. Yeah right.
<span style="color: #20124d; font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">
3. Runway extension: A minister of Civil Aviation seldom does an actual site visit to any of the airports, except for the red carpet and the ribbon cutting ceremonies. Odd enough that Jayant Sinha did not feel the need or importance of taking a reality check, literally by taking a stroll in an SUV to see the progress made in repair and extension of the runway. Apparently these facilities were added after the Buffalo Hit incident with the same airline who was to recommence connectivity after a 30 odd months of pull out. So much so for the enthusiasm for making speech's, that he let go this important part as a responsible minister. Arguably if he couldn't make himself available to see the 3 Km runway, it doesn't seem that a 4 km runway was ever to be on his agenda, except that he was asked to speak so for the bytes.
<span style="color: #20124d; font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">

<span style="color: #20124d; font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">4. "International" facility: The laughable most part is, if the minister meant that by making glass door partitions within an open space means upgrading it to an "International facility Airport" then you have made the best fools off the 6 million citizens. So why on earth the same was not done at the first place?
<span style="color: #20124d; font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">

<span style="color: #20124d; font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">The fact to the question is, that the TWO FLIGHT MYTH ("Locha" in Surti terms) was created to avoid any competition for the Airport from the neighboring PM constituency. So not only the domestic sector was curbed by this hoax hence even dreaming of International Airport at Surat was out of question. Apparently the same regressive mentality remains till date with 12 Million population of Surat and South Gujarat.
<span style="color: #20124d; font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">

<span style="color: #20124d; font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">5. Terminal Building: Apparently there was no mention of the "Approved" plan for the extension of the current Terminal building, as it will remain as political bait for General elections in 2019. Now didn't he slide it off this major aspect of development with such an ease? In reality having a New/Larger terminal building with increased capacity and infrastructure is a pertinent matter for an International Airport?
<span style="color: #20124d; font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">Yes you will get International Airport, but wait till we come back later.
<span style="color: #20124d; font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">

<span style="color: #20124d; font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">

<span style="color: #20124d; font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">
<span style="color: #20124d; font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">6. Slots: BOM sector is the most ignored route both by the National Carrier and the MOCA. As nicely chucked away by the MOCA duos, in the initial stages that they do not interfere in the matters of Private Airlines, they get better and better in using the same phrase of "Non-Interference" when the matter came about slots at "Private Airports". The ball is swiftly thrown in the courts of the MIAL under "subject to availability of slots' clause. In reality this is not the case with many other favored cities. It seems the "sleeping-partner" from Shivaji Park is giving a hard time to the man of "56 ki chhaati". So when it comes to getting the slots at BOM, the word is "yeh araam ka maml hai".
<span style="color: #20124d; font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">

<span style="color: #20124d; font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">7. Other destinations: When it comes to other major destinations, apparently where they cannot cite reasons of "Non Availability of slots, the buck now stops at "availability of aircraft". Are you serious...???
<span style="color: #20124d; font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">Don't remember seeing any fine prints under asterix sign saying, "Subject to Aircraft Availability", when the new Aviation policy and the UDAN policy was announced. So in other words these policies were made without keeping the aircraft shortage in mind? Ironically 2 Indian operators have placed a combined order of 400-500 aircrafts, highest ever by any airline, any country, thus far in the aviation history. If MOCA doesn't have control over Private airlines then how come the National Carrier under the leadership of the "Turnaround" man cannot just churn around few aircrafts on lease for such cities of high demand and neglect.
<span style="color: #20124d; font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">

<span style="color: #20124d; font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">Not even for a city of 6 Million population. Not even for an airport that could serve a population of 12 Million from South Gujarat. Not even for those 2 Million NRGs residing abroad. Not even for a Highest per capita income generating city in the country. Not even for one of the fastest growing city in the nation and the world. Not for a for a 'Smart City'..!!! How dumb is that.
<span style="color: #20124d; font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">

<span style="color: #20124d; font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">International Flights: The minister left little to the imagination of the common man how the Government operates, particularly how the Ministry of Civil Aviation operates for the benefit of its citizens.

<span style="color: #20124d; font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">In first Place Honorable Minister A Raju and his mate, J Sinha were aptly clear that MOCA has no control over any Private Airlines and they cannot 'Force' airlines to operate from Surat.
<span style="color: #20124d; font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">

<span style="color: #20124d; font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">However conveniently enough for the sake of forthcoming state elections, both were flying together on the same plane and assuming that at 36,000 feet above MSL hypothetically speaking, both went into a temporary state of dementia and momentarily forgot their roles as the MOS-MOCA & CMD of Spicejet.
<span style="color: #20124d; font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">

<span style="color: #20124d; font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">In this state of dementia instead maybe they thought they were on an Air-force flight of the Marines flying to Guantanamo bay.
<span style="color: #20124d; font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">

<span style="color: #20124d; font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">So like a Marine, the MOS, apparently had to arm twist (thankfully not waterboarding) Ajay Singh - who would not budge easily and hence not once, not twice but thrice, to get him to commit for Patna Flight, THEN for flights for other major cities like Bangalore, Kolkata, Jaipur etc and Finally for one International flight.
Him expressing of how much hard and how much more he had to arm twist so that Spicejet would Internationally connect Surat with Dubai or Sharjah, reminds of a crushing machine squeezing out the very last ounce of juice from a sugar cane, just as repeatedly done by the street vendors.
<span style="color: #20124d; font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">

<span style="color: #20124d; font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">One remains bewildered with fear, amazement, and admiration as how much effort had to be put on something which their high offices blatantly refused to partake initially, but have now come down to 'low-arm-tactics' for the sake of pleasing the vote bank.
<span style="color: #20124d; font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">

<span style="color: #20124d; font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">

<span style="color: #20124d; font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">

<span style="color: #20124d; font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">Bravo, what a way to get the job done and kudos for what an effective method of getting the job done..!!!

<span style="color: #20124d; font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">On the stage the CMD of Spicejet seemed very agreeable to whatever the minister asked for, but with the descriptive strong-arm-tactics.......sorry arm-twisting tactics of the MOS, he could only be too eager to instruct his PA to ensure that he never fly's with a minister on the same flight, ever again.
<span style="color: #20124d; font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">Hope Spicejet is already not contemplating to put Jayant Sinha's name too on the No-Flying list, with already the "Chappalbaaz" minister from his government and now an Arm-Twister being added to that list.
<span style="color: #20124d; font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">

<span style="color: #20124d; font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">Flying, certainly is getting too dangerous, albeit from co-passengers, especially if they are 'Honorable Ministers'
<span style="color: #20124d; font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">

<span style="color: #20124d; font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">8. CISF: If International Airport was a reality to happen in the near future, wouldn't it be prudent enough to have announced the arrival of CISF security cover for the Airport. Especially keeping in mind the lack of equipment, experience and exposure of State police for handling customs clearance for international flights.
<span style="color: #20124d; font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">

<span style="color: #20124d; font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">9. Air Cargo Terminal: The Air Cargo Terminal arguably under the direct supervision of MOCA branch is still yet to be contracted. One wonders when the work will start to get finished by end of the year. Conveniently no one spoke about it. No questions were asked, in the fake euphoria created of hearing the word "International Airport" and the 'innocent' crowd cheering at that term.

<span style="color: #20124d; font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">

<span style="color: #20124d; font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">

<span style="color: #20124d; font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">
10. No Dates / No Specific Time Frame / No Particular Commitments: At the end of it Jayant Sinha made a ride good on the back of Ajay Singh. He himself DID NOT commit to any thing but eventually he put everything else on the shoulders of the others:
Private Airlines-Subject to availability of aircrafts,
<span style="color: #20124d; font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">Connectivity-Subject to availability of slots
<span style="color: #20124d; font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">Runway extension-Subject to availability of land by the local administration
<span style="color: #20124d; font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">

<span style="color: #20124d; font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">

<span style="color: #20124d; font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">

<span style="color: #20124d; font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">The fact remains that during PM's last visit, just a few weeks back, if he PM himself has not made any announcements(commitments), he surely wouldn't have left the limelight for the MOS - MOCA to hog and take away the media attention when the forth coming state elections are crucial as Gujarat has weak leadership in particular. It however seems that the results in UP have gone to their heads and State are expecting equally good results from the two redundant representatives of Surat.
<span style="color: #20124d; font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">

<span style="color: #20124d; font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">

<span style="color: #20124d; font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">Ironically enough, but it seems this year the well known Surti Kite Flying Festival has been extended until summer.......so Surtis here it is for you......from MOCA - "Kai po chhe......" and what we hear the 'humble' followers acknowledging is - "Lapetyo chhe......" and while they are busy clapping and patting each others back for a job well done and for a selfie well taken, a lot of tangled yarn remains to be sorted & rolled.
<span style="color: #20124d; font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">

<span style="color: #20124d; font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">More the reason to be resolute and make this dream come true.

Since the new APD, Mr. Pramod Kumar Thakre has just recently taken over the office of the - Airport Director at the Surat Airport, he might still be feeling the aftershocks of the buffalo hit at the runway, an incident which happened a few weeks back. In order to support the new incumbent, to ensure that he too may not become a "VICTIM" of this evil system and before many more bovine lives were lost any further; we hence decided to shower upon the new comer with a few ideas, suggestions and a few words of caution and help him to make a To-DO List for himself to delve upon.

Why this check list...???

- A new Surti saying.

Here are a few points & suggestions of utmost importance and priority. Important enough & probably necessarily in the order of its listing.

The To-DO List:

Boundary Walls: First let us agree upon one thing; Barbed wire fencing technically does not construe to be a "wall". Period. Make Concrete walls NOT of bricks. Ensure deep foundation, for the wall to remain firm and not collapse like the previous one.

Watch Towers: Significant numbers of Watch Towers must be all around the periphery walls for the security staff so the ATC can blame it on them for not having noticed a 2000 pound bovine from the heights of the tower.

Moats & Cattle Barriers: Cattle rod barriers are ideal for large gated entrances, so the animals can be restrained, since the police is busy stopping every Tom, Dick & Harry, asking where they were going, when the Only flight to the city is about to land & take off. Moats or Storm water drains in the interior perimeter of the boundary walls become a good deterrent for water logging on the airfield and can be handy to drown oneself in case of a buffalo-hit takes place again.

CCTV & Flood lights: Just as you would NOT let the cable TV go blank in your swanky office keep the 'feed' ON for the CCTV too, particularly at close range of runways to catch hold of any "Paranormal activity". You might want to be very vigilant in this area particularly after the untimely death of the young bovine, rumors are that the spirit is all set to take another "go" at an aircraft. Sources say as fcat of the matter, Spicejet has discontinued all its services at the airport since the time they had this insider information of this 'evil-spirit'.

Service Roads: Proper roads/paths on the inside & the outside of the boundary walls must be maintained for security inspection and for the support of walls on soft soil. Another advantage of these paths will be that, in case of any animals that want to take a walk in the airport premises, can now be persuaded to do so, for a change on these "service-roads", instead of the runway.

Door Metal Detectors: Yes we all believe in "Atithi-devo-bhav" yet no matter what, we need to have functional Metal Detectors at the entry door of the Terminal to thoroughly check each & everyone entering the building. Keeping in mind that one fine day, things simply decide to, not-to-work, in such situations, have hand held detectors too, for the scanning VIPs & the Mango people alike.

Baggage Screening Machine: Please note that if you cannot operationally maintain ONE baggage screening machine then kindly arrange for TWO. Simply because they are used for the screening of bags are not meant for chest X rays as known to layman and which otherwise could endanger the safety of passenger & the aircraft. In case of a breakdown of such a machine (which is ALWAYS the case) & if you have a back-up machine; you will inadvertently refrain from signing up a prescription to the passengers asking them to have their bags checked at a Private Radiology Clinic instead, after their journey takes place.

Aero-bridges & Escalators : Finally we have managed to get the Aero-bridges to the doorstep of the airport, doesn't matter if they were not up to the required specification. Of course it must have been approved by some numbskull & not by the Head of the technical department. Can't blame the poor HOD who actually went 'out of the way' of his duty requirements and was looking for buffaloes on the runway; instead of checking the specifications of the aero-bridges. Nevertheless, lets get them UP & running. Also, the escalators have been lying untouched as a virgin, do take a walk out of your cozy office to check if the "motor" for the escalator was installed or was it not included as part of the escalator 'deal' during the tendering process. Not your fault again because Tier-II cities may not have that level to have motors with their escalators. No worries. You may now have another opportunity and a reason to float another tender on this pretext.

CRPF Security: In a worst case scenario ask for State Reserve Police Force or any other para military force available within the state but NOT under GuPo(ગુપો). Simply because it is not their job and they are not trained and equipped for that. You might however want to retain their services assuming that they might actually be your solution to the buffalo menace, since they are good at beating the shit out of anybody & even make a buffalo, bleat. However, they should be retained Only to maintain an Airport - Police-Chowki within the airport premises on a permanent basis. Staffed and Manned, Always.

Runway Restoration: Apparently the condition of even the village roads in the state of Gujarat have dramatically improved, why not the runway...??? For a bumpy ride we will use the facility at the Amusement Parks. Please do not be too generous to provide us with a two-in-one facility of a runway-cum-bumpy rides. We can do away with a runway, FIT enough for a Boeing to land and take off, without the teeth clenching and having to wear crash helmets while landing at the airport.

Runway Extension: Unless you are totally confused, do not play with the numbers and the difference between Feet & Meters. Runway LENGTH & WIDTH both needs to be extended for larger aircrafts and needs to be worked upon with a time bound and planned manner to remove the TWO flights Cap.....WTB(what the buffalo).......??? Since you have taken the charge recently with the event of buffalo-hit, allow me to clear the impression that the airport runway was not made for bullock cart racing on the eve of 'Eekadashi'. If you make the required changes even the airlines will have a change of opinion about Surat airport.

Fuel Station: IF YOU made the rule. YOU follow it. Simple as it is. Just DO-IT. NO, we are not asking you to dig oil wells, just the prescribed Fueling Station is good enough. CNG gas stations by Adani's are not a solution, don't even think of it.

ILS - Instrument Landing System: Yeah right......just so you know runways have TWO ends and BOTH the ends can be used to take off & land. Not doing so causes limitations (like the freaking TWO flight cap) for air traffic and causes Airlines to spend more on fuel during unfavorable conditions to land from just one direction. Hence ILS is a must on the other side of the runway too. On the hind sight if you can organize for a BSS (Buffalo Sighting System) too, it might just be handy....right...?? No kidding.

Hangars: Covered hangar Sheds for Boeing sized aircrafts and Not make shift arrangements will encourage for overnight halts/flights for the city. Yes we know they have been there on the blue print, but having not referred to it even the blue prints have turned into rust-prints.

Customs & Excise Office: A step to get International cargo like diamonds etc to be shipped from the base station and not through the "good-old" Mumbai. Trust me there is a dearth of business opportunities for CSIA then crib on this development, which rightfully should be provided here.

Cargo & Catering Complex: To enable airlines the advantage of making additional revenue this facility must be provided so the airlines are lured to connect with the city. And guess what YOU make the revenue too.

Covered Visitors Car Parking: A car parking is currently provided, however is of great inconvenience as it is not a covered facility, hence people avoid the usage of it and rather park under a shade on the main road, outside the airport, Causing revenue loss to the airport and the parking contractor. Remember if you tempt them with facilities with Value for money, it will be flocked.Trust me in case of the bovines visiting you again they might even prefer to "park" them here instead of getting hit by a rogue aircraft.

Taxi / Rickshaw Stand: For any airport this is a MUST service to enable to use the services of an airport, hence covered parking sheds should be provided at the airport to use them at any time of the day or night & in any weather conditions.

City Bus Stand: Identify a location closer to the Terminal Building & create Covered Bus Shelter, for the mango people. Apparently even the tabela owners have now upgraded their Tabelas in order to lure the bovines to remain within. I am sure you have the reason to do a better job for the Mango People.

BRTS Stand: The city is being 'blessed' with an extravagant mass public transport facility since awhile. It will be best that another public facility like a Civilian Airport to provide a spot WITHIN the airport campus for a public facility like a BRTS stand or Drop-Off /Pick-Up location, closer to the terminal building in a planned manner. It is good to act now, just in case the BRTS services runs out of funds and closes shop by the time you think of making one.

PCO Booth: For access within & outside of the terminal building. Seriously....!!! YES no matter even if we are the largest cellphone markets in the world. It is a Public facility and does not take much to keep this available though it may sound 'Outlandish'.

Speed Post & Parcel Office: Parcel Shipping & letter drop box facility. True MANY will say what is the use of this in the age of emails. Remember we still have to keep our basics thorough and intact even while we take the leap in the virtual world.

Rest Rooms & Drinking Water Facility: A Fresh room & drinking water facility within the campus but outside terminal building is a must for escorts & visitors, who have no access to the Terminal facilities. I hope you remember the "Swchh Bharat" Abhiyaan by our dear PM.....right...?? It could be paid facility like Sulabh Sauchalay & Drinking Water fountain or Water Vending Machines for Visitors, & drivers. Yes you heard it right WVM's, because you are a public service and not sole selling agents for the manufacturers of the so called "mineral Water'.

Convenience Center: As a fact of the matter there should be a 'Convenience Center', a complex with various shops, and eating outlets with facility of sit down lounges along with other commercial establishments accessible the visitors. The current facility is totally inadequate and impractical too dreamt in the 70's made in the 20's but we are now looking beyond 2020. We hope your eyesight to this vision too is a perfect 2020.

If you make it this far, then in the meanwhile you want to pursue these matters for as long term goal:

Acquire ALL of the allotted land for the second phase and expansion of the Airport for an International Category.

Float Tenders for the International Terminal Building and the Second runway.

The MOST important point from the above ALL is to do a FOLLOW-UP on these points on a regular basis with the help of this check-list that we just made it for you.

See now you know why we made this list for you.

NO. No need to thank us but we certainly will thank you if you are diligent enough to keep the boundary walls intact(to begin with & follow through the list) and instead of bovines let airplanes move freely on runway 22.

The previous APD had a Doctorate to his credentials (yeah, yeah we know it is not the medical doctorate), however he failed in reading the difference in-between-the-lines of a "Proposed Project" and an "Approved Project". Hence we hope Mr. Pramod Kumar Thakre, now that you have this insight you have the determination to take the "BULLS" & the buffaloes, by the horns.

If NOT....????

I sincerely suggest, that on this weekend, you might as well pay a visit to the City's oldest market - "The Shaniwaari Bazaar" & just in case Saturday is not your day try the "Raviwaari Bazaar" too and look for a MAGIC WAND.

Ooops.... sorry Dr. S D Sharma none of your elaborate social circle in the city suggested you the above option. Never mind, better luck next time. After all, don't we all learn from our past mistakes. At Surat YES, We Do, particularly after having put ALL our faith & TRUST in a 'friend' but ending up getting rammed by a buffalo it has shaken us up and our sense of judgement too.

The perennial question however remains; Will YOU including the new incumbent, now learn to ACT...???

OR

Choose to just get 'lucky' to be posted at a hill station and live happily ever after.

However, the aftermath of the incident, the first administrative casualty took place in the form of the APD - Dr S D Sharma being sacked on the grounds of dereliction of duty.

The news spread a ripple of mixed response in the city. As many rightly feel since the APD - Airport Director, was the person directly in charge of the well being & safety of Surat Airport, he deserved it.
section of the citizens, strongly believe that the APD was a 'victim' of
bureaucracy and was made a scapegoat by his superiors. It is said that the
repairs and maintenance matters were reported by the APD at the highest level at the Mumbai Regional Office, since the Surat Airport falls under their jurisdiction but were ignored by A K Sharma the immediate boss of APD.

Besides the above rumors about this incident taking place, there are some other conspiracy theories taking rounds of the city. It is said that there were several projects accomplished at the Surat Airport by the APD, bypassing the higher ups at the Mumbai office, which left some wounded egos. Also what was not in favor of the APD was that he was known as a task master by his subordinates and there were many who would love to have him go and thence live their life happily ever after.

This local dissidence & the ignored higher ups hence now had a common enemy in the form of APD. As part of this conspiracy the APD was asked to come to Delhi office on pretext of some official work and in his absence a buffalo was let lose during the dusk hours, by his unhappy subordinates and resulted into an infamous incident to show the 'inefficiency' of the APD and adding a blemish to the sparkle of the diamond city.

The other theory that is also taking rounds is that the files were purposely not being sanctioned and buried under dust because of political reasons, obviously Mumbai not wanting to share its glory with Surat which could take away their business and their importance as a commercial airport; since majority of the business to Mumbai airport is provided by Gujarat and Gujarati businesses which have offices in Mumbai and travel and carry their exports from the Mumbai Airport, could get diverted to Surat. Hence development of Surat Airport was purposely curbed. The buffalo incident was an incident that was just in the waiting to happen and actually came for them as a boon in disguise. The wounded egos struck, exactly when it was right for them to hurt the person who bypassed them and also kept the unionized employees happy too.
One 'buffalo' & one too many kills.

They ALL know that their hands would be soaked in blood in case such a tragedy were ever to happen and hence the blame game is on, which evidently which they are very good at.

We do not know whether the APD was directly responsible for this infamous incident but we surely know that he was NOT the ONLY person responsible for it.
